Dear Wine Lover,
I had a chance to taste a bottle of Barolo 2013 of Paolo Scavino a few days ago and I was just amazed. It was great, almost Pinot-like Barolo built on delicacy and aromatics, so fresh and already enjoyable but will reach its peak in a couple of years, and the crazy thing is that it is available at CHF 36 + Vat while normally you would have to pay about the double for this kind of high quality Barolo.
This domaine, located in Castiglione Falletto in Piedmont, was given birth in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo and it is now at his 4th Generation, with the direction nowadays of this illustrious terroir handled by Enrico Scavino, since 1951, and his daughters Enrica and Elisa. Through over 60 years Enrico Scavino has held this domaine among the most praised of this unique region, showing year after year what Nebbiolo grape can achieve!!
2013 is a great vintage for Piedmont wines and this reflects in the quality of the Barolo Scavino which was also scored 95 points by James Suckling, same score as the Crus Barolo of Scavino, but available at half price! This is a must try for those who would like to experience what a true Barolo tastes like!
